On Lent
Before starting any fast whether it be for lent or personal reverence make sure to study up on how Jesus calls us to fast…
Matthew 6,
16 “And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
I get sad every year when seeing the perversion of lent in the hearts of my peers. People need to put forth the right heart because God doesn’t need anything from us. God is God. God doesn’t need us. God wants us. He doesn’t want our coffee, alcohol, sweets, fat, etc. He wants our lives. He sacrificed his son for us so we wouldn’t have to be separated by the law but live by the spirit of the law, presenting ourselves as living sacrifices, in joy always.
Romans 12,
1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Not for our benefit but for his glory, in service, joy and love. The sacrifice has already been given. I encourage you to spend some time in prayer and meditation on what that means to your life when you think of this time of the year. Will you revere the joy of God and the call Jesus gives or be loud and boastful in your complaints, words and actions as you in your heart call upon your own strength which in the end is worthless. I say this all in love to you because I want you to know the joy we can have in doing things like this the way we are instructed to. Not for our Glory but for his.

The opinions and statements made in these blog posts are from my personal study and meditation of the Bible. I am not an ordained minister, nor have I set foot in a seminary, I am a college guy who wants to Love the Lord and wants to simply expand upon the thoughts he has put into my head and heart through his word, Son and Spirit through Christ Jesus. Amen. ;) All replies, complaints, comments, corrections, rebukes, etc. are encouraged and will be taken in the best of spirits. Thanks!
